From old favorites like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV to brand new games like New World and Mortal Online 2, there’s something for everyone in the world of online role-playing.
And the good news is that there are plenty more upcoming MMORPGs on the horizon, with several big releases scheduled for 2022 and beyond.
Here is a list of some of the best upcoming MMORPGs to keep an eye out for.
Ashes of Creation
Ashes of Creation is an upcoming MMORPG from Intrepid Studios. The game is set in a high fantasy world and features a unique take on the genre, with a focus on player-driven content.
Ashes of Creation is unique in that it features a player-driven economy, with players able to control the supply and demand of items in the game world. The game also features an extensive political system, with players able to join or create factions for control of the in-game world.
The game is currently in alpha testing, with a closed beta date still needing to be announced.
Ashes of Creation is currently in development and a release date is currently unknown.
Corepunk is an upcoming MMORPG from ArtCraft Entertainment. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world and features a unique take on the genre, with the game being top-down in a similar style as Diablo. There is also a Fog of War dynamic in Corepunk which is rarely seen in MMO games.
Currently, Corepunk is in Alpha with a beta release expected sometime in 2022.
Dual Universe is an upcoming space-building MMORPG game that is entirely driven by players. The game is set in a vast procedurally generated universe, with players able to terraform planets, build space stations, and fly capital ships.
Build your own houses, ships, space stations, and more. Dual Universe allows players to really take control of the world they are playing in by giving players the freedom to do as they like whether that is waging war or crippling economies or even being a space pirate.
Dual Universe is currently in Beta and new players can join in on the fun.
Odin Valhalla Rising
Odin Valhalla Rising is an upcoming mobile MMORPG game (it will also be on PC) from Funcom. The game is set in the Viking age and features a unique take on Norse mythology. Odin Valhalla Rising will feature player-driven content, with players able to join or create clans for control of the in-game world.
The game is currently in alpha testing, with an unknown official release date at this point.
Blue Protocol is an upcoming Anime MMORPG by Bandai Namco. In a sense, Blue Protocol is quite similar to RPG Genshin Impact where you play through a story with the main character while being followed by some quirky cute anime girl.
At this point, not much is known about the game as the developer has been very quiet about the development but we do expect a release in Japan sometime in 2022, followed by a global release.
Camelot Unchained is an upcoming fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) which was initially funded through Kickstarter.
The game is being developed by City State Entertainment and is set in the Arthurian era. The game Camelot Unchained will feature three warring factions, each with their own unique take on Arthurian lore.
PvE and RvR combat are both planned to be a large focus in the game, with an emphasis on player-driven content.
The Beta 1 Phase started in 2018 and the game is still currently in this phase. A release date is currently unknown and they seem to be having some financial difficulties at this time.
Embers Adrift is an upcoming sandbox MMORPG currently being developed by Stormhaven Studios in Texas.
Players can choose from 9 different roles which include:
- Supporters – Duelist, Sentinel, Warlord
- Defenders – Juggernaut, Knight, Marshal
- Strikers – Berserker, Brigand, Warden
The core focus of Embers Adrift is PvE and you will probably not see any PvP in this game other than duels.
The game is currently in the Beta testing phase and based on their weekly community updates, they might still need more time to finish development.
The upcoming dynamic MMORPG Fractured is showing great promise at this stage of its development. Players can choose between 3 different races (Humans, Wildfolks, and Demons) and start their adventure.
Fractured features fully interactable environments and puts a focus on competitive and cooperative gameplay. The focus of Fractured is about the player’s skills rather than equipment and levels.
A planned release date is set for 2022 on their Steam page.
League of Legends MMO
In recent years, Riot Games has been focusing on much more titles than just League of Legends. As of right now, they are even working on a League of Legends MMO (the release name is currently unknown) and have started hiring for the development.
Not much is known about the game at this point other than that it will be established in Runeterra. A map of the world was released by Riot Games but not much more info has been provided.
A release date has not been announced yet but it most likely won’t be before 2024.
That’s all for the new upcoming MMORPGs for 2022 and beyond. Which ones are your favorites?
